Should The Brewers Trade Bill Hall?

According to this JSOnline report, Bill Hall would like to be traded. Hall is not happy with his new role as a platoon player, and he feels especially dissed because of his willingness in the past to switch positions.

It's been over a week since Russell Branyan made his 2008 debut with Milwaukee. Here are his numbers since then:

.292 Avg, 24 AB, 7 Hits, 3 HR, 4 RBI, 6 Runs, 6 Walks, 11 Ks

Hall has only appeared in 4 games since Branyan started on May 25. In 8 AB, Hall has 3 Hits, 1 RBI, 2 Runs, and 3 Ks. Hall will most likely get another start tonight against Randy Johnson. Hall has 0 hits in 8 lifetime ABs against Johnson.

If it gets to the point where Hall is becoming a clubhouse distraction, the Brewers will have to make a move. If Hall is traded, that could mean more playing time for Joe Dillon, who could start at 3B against left-handed pitchers. Dillon is hitting .273, with 9 hits in 33 AB - mostly as a pinch-hitter.

Perhaps the biggest reason to trade Hall, is that since Branyan made his first start, the Brewers are 7-2. Before that, Milwaukee was 23-26.

Bill Hall is a big baby. He's making millions of dollars to play a game, and when he sucks at it and gets benched, he whines about it. I'm sorry Bill, if you can't hit right handed pitching, SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP. We have other players who can. We're trying to win a pennant, and if that means sitting you down every other day, so be it.

I agree. I think Hall was best when he was the "super sub." He's a streak hitter, and when he's on, he'a excellent, but he hasn't been on this year. I think his versatility makes him valuable, and if Weeks and Hardy get hurt/continue to not hit, I think he's a more viable long term replacement than Craig Counsell. I think Dillon is a major liability in the field, and he also is valuable as a pinch hitter. With Dillon, Kapler, and Counsell, I think we have 3 solid pinch hitters you give you quality at bats most of the time. In the end however, I think whoever is at third is merely holding the spot until Mat Gamel takes over in 09.
